The group exhibition ENTROPIA explores the concept of entropy, a term derived from the Greek meaning “transformation” or “a turning toward.” According to the second law of thermodynamics, entropy signifies an irreversible process where different energy states reach equilibrium through heat exchange, which cannot be reversed. Ultimately, the energy flow is depleted, coming to a standstill. Entropy as a measure of irreversibility interested the American artist Robert Smithson (1938–1973), who applied the concept to economic and ecological processes. Against this backdrop, the artists featured in this exhibition delve into human intervention in nature and its transformative, irreversible effects. They depict entropic processes of transformation, the entanglement of humans in the cycle of consumption and waste, and landscapes altered by human modification.
