Basel City

Just a stone's throw away from Riehen is the city of Basel and its approximately 180,000 residents and its abundance of must-see attractions. This includes Basel's historic centre and the Rhine, as well as the art museum and the zoo.

Basel Region

In the area around Riehen and Basel, it’s well worth visiting the “Dreiländereck” tripoint, the former Roman settlement Augusta Raurica or the Wasserfallen region, ideal for hiking in summer and sledging in winter.

Lörrach

With a population of around 50,000 people, the German town of Lörrach is located north of Riehen and is also worth a trip for tourists. Stroll around the pedestrian shopping zone in the historic centre, visit the Three Countries Museum or enjoy a barbecue above the town next to Rötteln Castle.

Weil am Rhein

Just a stone's throw away from Riehen is Weil am Rhein, in southwestern Germany. The town is primarily known for the furniture manufacturer Vitra. The company's grounds feature architectural masterpieces, exhibition rooms and a world-renowned museum. Visitors also enjoy the offerings at the Kulturzentrum Kesselhaus and the preserved heritage railway, with steam trains rolling through the Kander Valley every Sunday in summer.

Alsace

Alsace begins just a few kilometres away from Riehen. The French region on the other side of the border has a lot to offer. Fans of delicious food and exquisite wines will love a trip to Colmar, for example, while nature enthusiasts will enjoy a hike through the Petite Camargue nature conservation area on the Rhine near St. Louis.
