Art & Culture
Riehen turns art into culture. Riehen has outstanding things to offer.
In the world-famous Fondation Beyeler, you can admire famous works of classical modernism in the elegant building designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. The Kunst Raum Riehen and several artists' studios in the municipality, as well as various private galleries, continue Riehen's tradition as a place for artists, which originated in the 19th century.
Historical buildings characterize the village as much as modern architecture. The 17th century Wettsteinhaus is home to the village and vineyard museum as well as the famous toy museum.
Riehen's cultural associations offer a fascinating range of music, literature and theater. The municipality supports them in their activities and organizes various cultural events itself - often in cooperation with other artists from Basel or in cross-border contacts with neighbouring Germany.
A variety of venues such as parks, churches, the Wenken or the Landgasthof provide an attractive setting for a wide range of events. Numerous classical music concerts take place in the Landgasthof, churches and other venues.
Riehen is located in a dynamic cultural landscape between the centers of Basel, Lörrach and Weil am Rhein. The international art scene is just as present here as regional culture. Classical music and jazz are just as firmly established as rock and pop music. A particular highlight for art lovers is the Fondation Beyeler, which enjoys an international reputation with its exquisite collection, exclusive exhibitions and events. Here, architecture, art and nature combine to create a unique overall experience. Another attraction with national appeal is the Toy Museum
in the historic Wettsteinhau building.
