Wettsteinanlage

Wettsteinanlage is Riehen's most popular park thanks to its central location. Its centrepiece is the large, modern and varied playground with paddling pool. The historic areas near the Wettstein and Lüscher Houses and the town hall are rather quieter and more sedate. In terms of historic garden conservation, the sections near the Wettstein and Lüscher Houses are the most important parts of the park. The area is named after the Basel mayor Johann Rudolf Wettstein, who converted a former farmstead into a private estate here in the mid-17th century. The park was designed in the style of English landscape gardens in 1892. Nonetheless, a number of French baroque motifs and elements remain.
