Petite Camargue

Although the Camargue region is actually around 700 kilometres away from Riehen, the "Petite Camargue" – a nature reserve spanning 900 hectares – can be reached in less than half an hour. Here on the floodplains of the Rhine, an imperial fish farm was created in 1852. Following a long interruption, salmon have been bred here again in the Petite Ca-margue since 2000. The former meadow landscape is not only home to farmed fish but also countless birds and other animals, as well as many rare plants. The nature reserve can be explored on leisurely walks along three sign-posted paths.
